Why Ahmadis call themselves ‘Ahmadi Muslims’ and claim to practice the Islam that was taught & practiced by Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw)?

The name Ahmadiyya was given to the Community by the Promised Messiah to commemorate the name of the Holy Prophet (saw), who has the two names, Ahmad and Muhammad. As the Promised Messiah's mission was to carry on the work of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) under his second name Ahmad, his followers are called Ahmadi Muslims.

Allah says: ”And remember when Jesus, son of Mary, said, ‘O children of Israel, surely I am Allah’s Messenger unto you, fulfilling that which is before me of the Torah, and giving glad tidings of a Messenger who will come after me. His name will be Ahmad.’ And when he came to them with clear proofs, they said, ‘This is clear enchantment.’” (Holy Qur'an61:6)

The name ‘Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’ does not point to a new religion. Ahmadis are Muslims and their religion is Islam. The adoption of a new name is not the adoption of a new religion. The name Ahmadiyyat is the name of a reinterpretation or a restatement of the Religion of the Holy Quran. It is a restatement presented under divine guidance by the Founder of the Ahmadiyya Movement. This name is meant only to distinguish Ahmadi Muslims from other Muslims interpretations of Islam.

‘I have come to establish the truth of Islam and to convince men of its beauty, and to lead them to the fountain of its teachings and to refresh their souls with its waters. I have brought no new law or command. The Holy Quran is the final code of Divine laws and Muhammad (on Whom be peace and blessings of God) is His last Law-bearing Prophet. I am His messenger but without a new law; and I am a Prophet but without a book; and the sole object of my advent is to serve Islam and to propagate it and to remove from its bright face the dust that has been settled there as the result of the stormy thoughts of man during the latter days.’
